Aspire Workforce Development Initiative
The Aspire Workforce Development Initiative targets youth ages 14-21, who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out of school. Through one-on-one case management, tutoring and academic support, job training and career exploration, youth are encouraged to plan for their future and work hard to succeed.
Communities In Schools of Arizona is one of 12 organizations partnering with Valley of the Sun United Way to meet the diverse needs of the Valley youth who will participate in the Aspire program.
According to Census estimates, in 2003 in the City of Phoenix...
More than 11,500 youth between the ages of 16 and 19 were not enrolled in school and had not graduated.
More than 60% of those were either unemployed or not in the labor force.
Which means...
On a given day, more than 7,500 youth are not in school and not working.
