Bret R. Tarver Elementary Students
Get a Little Help From "Back-to-School"
In July, 71 students from Bret R. Tarver Elementary School participated in Back-to-School Clothing Drive Association’s (BTSCDA) Annual Distribution. For nearly 39 years, BTSCDA has been partnering with schools in the Valley by providing clothing and other necessities to students in need.
With 88% of Tarver Elementary students at or below the federal poverty line, receiving brand new clothes and shoes was a welcome sight for parents already experiencing economic barriers.
The day started with students checking into Tarver’s front office with their parents. After students were fed lunch, they boarded the school bus bound for Phoenix Preparatory Academy, the site for BTSCDA’s Annual Distribution.
Once there, each student was personally escorted to the various stations to be fitted for their clothing. Students received school clothing, shoes, and socks, among other necessities. During this day-long event, students also spent time socializing with other students from their school that they may not have known before.
At the end of their shopping experience, each student received a snack and was escorted back to their school group. Bret R. Tarver Elementary Students left Phoenix Preparatory Academy with a new outfit, new confidence and a new smile to start the school year off right!
