School Based Services (SBS) mobilizes and connects resources and services with primary schools serving low-income students.
CISA partners with schools that have a minimum of 85% of the students below the federal poverty level. Of the schools we partner with, this average is between 90% & 95%. The schools are located primarily in West, Central and South Phoenix and serve high minority populations, primarily Hispanic.
The statistics of our Partner and Sustaining Schools reveal that we are targeting some of the most under-resourced populations in the Valley. We provide them with services in three ways:
Partner School Program
Partner schools are provided with multi-year commitments of funding, training and technical assistance to implement comprehensive, site-based health and human services for students right on the school campus. CISA works with key school stakeholders including the principal, assistant principal, school social worker and parents to identify the school's top needs and develop a strategy to address them. (This process is done through a formal needs assessment.)
Once their strategy is developed, CISA and the school stakeholders identify and form partnerships with service agencies and resource providers that will be most beneficial to their students. CISA helps the school develop and maintain these relationships through providing a full-time Site Coordinator who coordinates activities on campus, seeks additional community resources, provides technical assistance, and gathers data for formal evaluation through the logic model.
Schools eligible for this program are located in areas where 85-100% of the population is living below the federal poverty. CISA serves seven schools through this program.
Sustaining School Program
Sustaining schools are schools that have graduated from being Partner schools. CISA has completed its multi-year commitment with them, however continues to provide assistance in continuing the programs developed through their Partner School years. There are four Sustaining Schools currently.
Supported School Program
Supported schools receive in-kind resources and services such as schools supplies, training, literacy programs and character building programs. CISA communicates the non-academic needs of Supported School students to businesses and civic leaders throughout the Phoenix metro area and acts as the conduit to match donated community resources with the neediest schools. CISA currently serves 99 Supported Schools throughout Arizona.
